DANIEL AKAKA MURAL

Project Management / Graphic Design

Project Management / Graphic Design

Playground Art Crew, along with Pena People, received a grant from Hawai'i Feast to paint a mural at Kaneohe Elementary. We chose to paint Senator Daniel Akaka, the first Senator of native Hawaiian ancestry who was also formerly the principal of Kaneohe Elementary.

As project manager I sourced supplies, created the timeline, designed the mural layout, and coordinated with the principal and teachers of Kaneohe Elementary. We unveiled the finished mural in May 2018 with a ceremony commemorating and celebrating the late Senator Akaka. Senator Akaka's family, members of the local community, and students of Kaneohe Elementary were all in attendance for this special event.
