Playground Art Crew is an apparel company with a mission to inspire creativity in students through providing art supplies and lessons. Each purchase translates into a donation of art supplies to a student in need.
The Playground Art Crew Coloring Book features a collection of illustrations by local artists from Hawai'i. For every book sold, one is donated to a student at a partnering school. The idea behind this coloring book was to connect local artists with local students through art and design.
Playground Art Crew along with artists Lauren Hana Chai and Lauren Okumoto, received a grant from Hawai'i FEAST to paint a mural at Kaheohe Elementary. The mural featured former senator Daniel Akaka, the first US senator of native Hawaiian ancestry who was also formerly the principal at Kaneohe Elementary.
As project manager I sourced supplies, created a timeline, designed the mural layout, and coordinated with the principal and teachers of Kaneohe Elementary. The mural was unveiled in May 2018 with a ceremony commemorating and celebrating the late Senator Akaka. Senator Akaka's family, members of the local community, and the students of Kaneohe Elementary were all in attendance for this special event.
Local videographers Travis Ota and Jordan Sakumoto documented the mural ceremony at Kaneohe Elementary.
